Meet Sue Shaw

Friday, July 19th, 2019

Meet Sue Shaw, our new Assistant Manager at Lower Stretton who has been with us now for just over 3 months after spending some time at both Little Budworth and Lower Stretton to learn the ropes.

Sue came to The Hollies with lots of experience in retail and hospitality starting her career with 22 years with Thornton’s Confectioners. Her first role there was Store Manager before moving on to be an Area Trainer delivering training and doing audits in the cafes across the whole of the country. Whilst with Thornton’s, Sue says she got to eat a lot of chocolates, often having 3 Apricot Parfaits for breakfast!

After Thornton’s, Sue went and worked for Marks & Spencer. Whilst with them she opened the Cheshire Oaks store and managed the 300-cover café, then moved to Wolstanton to open a new store there with a café, finally settling at the Handforth Dean M&S where she was Café Manager and then Deli & Bakery Manager.

Sue often used to shop and come for lunch at The Hollies at Little Budworth on her days off and tells us she always said, “I’d love to work here!”. When a vacancy came up, she was so excited and sent in her application. When she found out she had been successful, she tells us she felt so lucky to have been chosen for the job!

Sue loves socialising with her friends, likes walking and enjoys cooking and making cakes for everyone. She says her cakes are in no way professional, but she likes making them “to keep the team sweet!” (We note that none have made their way to the office yet Sue…). Her favourite drink is Prosecco, although she is partial to a Brockmans Gin! Sue is married, has a son and a daughter, plus a cat called Prada and 3 guinea pigs.

Sue’s Top 3 Hollies Products

  • The Carrot Cake Company’s Carrot Cake made in Cheshire.
  • All the Butchery meat (especially the pork chop she had from there the other day!)
  • The Hollies Bacon, Brie & Cranberry Sandwich

Next time you are at Lower Stretton, make sure you look out for Sue and say “Hello” – she loves getting to know you all!

A bit of fun!

We created a little tongue twister about Sue and got some of our staff to have a go at saying it! Look out for the videos when they appear on our Social Media sometime in August – some of us found it easy, some not so! Why not have a go yourselves?

We are sure Sue Shaw surely sells sweet shallots from the farm shop store
