Hunters Cheshire Gin

With so many amazing gins made and created here in the North West of England, we have picked Hunters Cheshire Gin as our Gin of the Month this April. Hunters is a high quality, export strength London Dry Gin which is full of character and has its heart in Cheshire where it was conceived. There are subtle citrus overtones with a spicy fruit edge that comes from Cheshire Apples grown in the orchards of the historic Norton Priory gardens in Norton, Runcorn.

Hunters Cheshire Gin was the idea of two friends; Cheshire based Jon Jones and Ian Cass. Between the two friends they have over 60 years of experience in the drinks trade. Their aim was to create a high quality gin, full of character that fitted with the Cheshire Lifestyle.

Hunters Cheshire Gin is a single batch distillation from a 300 year old recipe with botanicals including Balkan juniper berries and coriander, Iberan lemon & sweet orange peel, Madagascan cinnamon bark, Florentine orris root and French angelica. The exact recipe though is a closely guarded secret!

Nose: Citrusy, spicy nose with hints of orange and lemon peel. A touch of cinnamon.

Palate: Sweet, spicy palate entry with a lovely balance of exotic spices. Earthy juniper, a touch of aniseed.

Finish: Long finish with spice, orris and hints of dried herbs.

Perfect Serve:
We recommend Hunters Cheshire Gin with lots of ice, a splash of elderflower cordial, topped up with locally made Willington Apple Juice and garnished with a lemon wheel. So refreshing!

Established in 1950, Willington Fruit Farm near Kelsall is set in the heart of Cheshire close to the Sandstone Trail and Delamere Forest. The Winsor family planted their first apple trees in Cheshire in 1953 as part of their market garden enterprise. From there the business has grown to what it is today, still based at Willington Fruit Farm with those original trees still cropping. Various varieties of Willington Apple Juice are available all year round at The Hollies Farm Shop and feature on the menu in our Coffee Shops and Restaurant.
